Hmmm, okay, that does help. What that suggests to me is that the new job is likely to pull you into putting more time and attention toward it than might be best for you - whether on the advice of your friend, or because you start making good commissions or the like. You mentioning that you're good at sales and that you main goal is to meet and help interesting people suggests to me that there might be some other ways you could meet those goals and use those strengths that might be better in the long run.
Of course, as you say, you have to do what you need to take care of your family, and the world is a mixed up place right now, so we all have to make some calls that might not be our favorites.
